Our Approach

Where evidence-based medicine meets the whole person

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and it’s not the same man.”

— Heraclitus

At Centerpoint Integrative Psychiatry, treatment is guided by a whole-person approach to healing.

While every person’s path is unique, I often think of the work as unfolding through three interconnected stages: restoring balance to the body, healing through the heart, and returning to the center.

The Shape of the Work

Three Movements of Healing

These three stages guide our treatment approach.

Stage I

Balance to the Body

Healing often begins with restoring stability to the nervous system and supporting the body’s capacity to function. This may include careful psychiatric assessment, medication management when appropriate, sleep restoration, nutrition and lifestyle support, treatment of substance use patterns, and attention to the biological foundations of mood, anxiety, trauma, and addiction. We identify what needs to be changed, what is ready to be changed and enhance healthy lifestyles.

The goal of this stage is not simply symptom reduction. It is to restore your physical balance and foster the environment that can support healing and self-understanding.

Stage II

Healing through the Heart

Once there is more stability, treatment can move more deeply into the emotional life of the person. Many symptoms are connected to unresolved grief, trauma, shame, disconnection, relational wounds, or long-standing protective patterns. Healing through the heart means approaching these places with compassion and curiosity rather than judgment.

This stage involves primarily psychotherapy — and collaboration with your therapist if you are already working with one. It may involve ketamine-assisted therapy and integration work when appropriate, and a deeper exploration of the emotional and relational patterns that shape suffering. The goal is to help you understand the story of your own heart and to reconnect with compassion, meaning, drive and a clearer relationship with your own self.

Stage III

Return to the Center

The final stage is not reaching a peak or constant perfection. And it is not about becoming someone else. It is about returning to what is most true, grounded, and whole within the person. As symptoms soften and deeper wounds are understood, treatment can support a fuller sense of identity, purpose, expression and connection.

Returning to the center means engaging with practices that help you live with more clarity, self-trust, emotional freedom, and connection to what gives your life meaning. It is the movement from survival towards joy, acceptance and inner peace.
